Reviews for Tropical Gourmet
Review highlights
Based on 265 reviewsReviews of Tropical Gourmet frequently highlight its authentic and flavorful local cuisine, praised for traditional dishes like arroz con pollo and mofongo. Customers appreciate the broad and diverse menu offerings, citing well-prepared, comforting meals that represent Puerto Rican flavors well. The restaurant’s casual, family-owned atmosphere is seen as genuine, though some note that seating and service capacity can be limited during peak times, especially holidays. While the setting is modest and primarily outdoor—sometimes leading to minor discomfort from insects—patrons often find the food quality and value compelling enough to return. Beverage options, including house-made sangria and piña coladas, receive positive mentions, adding to the overall appeal of this unpretentious spot.
We love this place. It represents ALL typical food showcased locally. Very yummy!! As a family owned establishment, they lack the capacity to serve as many chairs as they have available; the bartender is the waiter and all you would expect. We notice it particularly during long holiday weekends. It’s a shame as the food is DELICIOUS. Perhaps bring help during busier times. Just a suggestion.
Good local spot. Food is tasty and prices are decent. Nothing fancy, but their menu is pretty extensive.
It's not the prettiest or comfiest roadside restaurant, but yet, I see myself coming back once a year for their food. The atmosphere, although not perfect, is one that is authentic and will not leave you complaining other than maybe some mosquitos since it's all basically outdoor. The food is really flavorful and their menu has excellent variety. The food at this place is not to be underestimated!
Tropical Gourmet is one of my favorite spots to eat whenever I’m in Rincón. The arroz con pollo is absolutely perfect; flavorful, comforting, and cooked just right. I also highly recommend the arroz con jueyes, a rich, creole-style rice dish that’s full of flavor. If you love garlic, you have to try their mofongo. It’s super garlicky in the best way possible, delicious and bold. And don’t leave without ordering empanadillas. You can’t go wrong with any of them, but my personal favorite is the meat and cheese. Crispy outside, savory inside, exactly what you want. Tropical Gourmet always hits the spot. Local, authentic, and full of flavor. A must-visit when in town. Highly recommend!
The house sangria was the right amount of sweet, the pina colada was yummy with good coconut flavor and well blended, and the beef and skirt steak empanadas were small but tasty.
Delicious variety, great portions and reasonable prices. Very friendly service and food made with love.
